Erasmus cannot imagine how Damen has managed to escape punishment for this
long, especially with the Prince in the same place. He drops his gaze as
Damen uses the Prince's name so informally, wondering at the boldness of
this man.
He is, indeed, no slave.
"I understand the words," he confesses, hands clenching as he fights to
speak of himself in such a direct way. It is appallingly inappropriate and
he feels very ill prepared for a world outside of Akielon walls.
"But I do not know anything but service. I don't...I only know how to
please and be pleasing. And I was sent away for falling short of even that
standard. I don't know what to do," he finishes, eyes stinging as he thinks
of a life without even the company of other slaves. He will have to be a
pet, if anyone will have him, or worse.
